Our Capabilities

At Ahrens, our vertically integrated business enables us to offer clients a “one-stop shop” from concept to completion. By managing the entire design and construction process in-house we are able to better control program, costs and quality. This enables us to consistently deliver outstanding projects on time and on budget.

Design

Our team of experienced designers use advanced engineering software to produce engineering drawings and designs that are efficient and functional. We have the ability to design the building or structure to the client’s detailed specifications and eliminate unnecessary costs, while still meeting the requirements of Australian and international building codes. Complementing our internal structural design, we partner with consultants to provide architectural designs and other specialist services. The benefit to the client is a collaborative approach, pooling expertise, ideas and resources.

Steel Fabrication Facilities

Our steel fabrication facilities in SA and Queensland are equipped to handle large steel contracts to ISO 9001 quality standards. Our workshops are fully enclosed and serviced by overhead cranes. Our world-class facility in SA is capable of producing welded tapered web beams and columns for Custom Engineered Buildings (CEB) and includes a semi-automated shot blast and paintline.

Procurement

Ahrens has the financial resources and storage area to purchase and hold up to 2000 tonnes of steel, giving us some protection against price flucutations. Due to the size of our operation we negotiate best buy rates with our suppliers and are also able to offer clients the option of global procurement. We can procure products from selected and proven overseas suppliers, resulting in more competitive steel prices and providing us with greater flexibility for supply and delivery. We continuously monitor quality, using a thorough process of internal and independent assessments.

In-house Trades & Site Crews

Of enormous advantage to our clients, is our ability to access and deploy in-house trades to work anywhere in Australia. These include experienced boilermaker/welders, carpenters and steel erection and cladding crews. Our Newman operation employs 60 trades covering demolition, asbestos removal, carpentry, cabinetmaking, plumbing, electrical, painting, fencing and landscaping.

Project Management

Our experienced Project Managers take a hands-on approach to each project. From initial discussions and the development of concept plans, through allocating in-house trades and skilled sub-contractors, our team of Project Managers strive for quality in a safe and productive environment. They engage in regular and robust consultation with clients and key stakeholders through scheduled Project Control Group (PCG) meetings and PCG reports. Our Project Managers are well resourced and able to work within the client’s  time and budget frameworks. They work closely with our experienced team of Site Supervisors who are fully equipped with the necessary communication tools and safety training.

Sub-contractors

We acknowledge the contribution of highly skilled and committed sub-contractors to our consistent performance. By developing long-term relationships with sub-contractors throughout Australia, we are able to effectively manage resources during busy periods and in remote or regional locations. Our sub-contractors are of such value that we treat them as employees, including them in internal communications and social functions. In addition, we provide support with safety documentation and training.

Remote/Regional Work

Over many years, Ahrens has extended its project base to regional and remote areas. With offices now strategically located throughout Australia, we are well placed to deliver Design & Construct, Materials Handling and Mining projects and a host of other other construction and engineering solutions to our clients. Maintaining long-term partnerships with key sub-contractors has allowed us to secure and deliver projects in remote locations, including Mt Isa, Newman, Roxby Downs, Alice Springs, Katherine, Geraldton and Kununurra. Our remote sites are well supported by relevant state offices, as well as our head office Group Support Services division which provides financial, administrative, communications, HR and IT support for our Project Managers and site crews. Where possible, Ahrens supports local businesses and communities in regional areas.
