Ahrens was engaged by Sandvik, a global supplier of mining industry equipment, to undertake the Design & Construct of eight silos and a conveyor support structure at Boral’s Peppertree Quarry.
This challenging Materials Handling project required Ahrens to build eight “off-the-shelf” silos and modify them to store aggregate, which provided Sandvik with a more cost-effective option than bespoke designs.
The benefit of using silos, instead of the traditional method of creating stockpiles, is that Boral is able to easily blend different mixes of aggregates.
To enable the conveyor to pass underneath the silos, they had to be built on plinth walls, presenting major access issues for Ahrens’ site erection team.
The diverse scope of works gave Ahrens the opportunity to draw on the resources and expertise of its Steel Fabrication, Design & Construct, Materials Handling – Mining and Agri operations.
