Performed across two projects, works included the design and construction of a feedmill and grain storage facilities.
Initially constructing the feedmill, Ahrens oversaw the entire project, completed all building construction works and supplied all of the plate bins. Following this, we completed two 8,000-tonne grain storage silos within the existing feedmill. This included foundations, in-loading and out-loading equipment, as well as support structures.
In response to high seismic design requirements for the site, Ahrens constructed an innovative unique floating raft system for the foundation. The silos were supplied by Chief, the conveyors were sourced from Australia and the structural elements were supplied by selected New Zealand contractors.
Working with the location and local community, concrete pours were completed at night to ensure all access roads to the port were clear.
This also enabled the existing feedmill to remain operational throughout the construction phase.
The entire plant was successfully constructed within the confines of a live feedmill with no delays to daily operational requirements.
